July 26, 2006
The Council of Fashion Designers of America announced yesterday the finalists for the third annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund initiative. Selected from a field of 101 candidates, those who made the cut are accessory designer and recent Swarovski Perry Ellis Award winner Devi Kroell, jewelry designer Justin Giunta of Subversive Jewelry, menswear designers David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone, and womenswear designers Phillip Lim of 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra of Costello Tagliapietra, Doo-Ri Chung of Doo.Ri (another Swarovski Perry Ellis Award winner), Jovovich-Hawk's Milla Jovovich and Carmen Hawk, Marchesa's Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte, and Thakoon Panichgul of Thakoon.
After next month's studio visits and interviews, one first-place winner and two runners-up will be announced at a gala in November. The top prize consists of $200,000, as well as a year's worth of guidance and support from industry executives, including members of the selection panel: Vogue's Anna Wintour and Sally Singer, the CFDA's Steven Kolb and Lisa Smilor, Oscar de la Renta, Coach's Reed Krakoff, Theory's Andrew Rosen, Kellwood's Stephen Ruzow, Barneys' Julie Gilhart, and Jeffrey's Jeffrey Kalinsky.
"It's a good class of designers, with varied styles and interests," said Kolb. "All of them would benefit greatly from a mentor and cash influx."
