Seven Fall Weather Essentials

Better Off Red

-------

Pretty, pale makeup shades may be the colors du jour, but after seeing the deep crimsons and scarlets on the Couture runways, we’ve got red on the brain. This bateau-neck frock from Diane von Furstenberg is an easy, work-ready staple (would you expect anything less from dress queen DVF?), but the bright cherry red gives an otherwise conservative garment a bit of va-va-voom. Acid Trip

One of the strongest color stories from Resort has been super-hot yellows, but you don’t have to sport an eye-searing cocktail dress à la Roksanda Illincic to get in on the trend. If you prefer neutrals to brights, we recommend taking a page from Phoebe Philo’s playbook by adding a pop of fluoro to your minimalist attire via a sleek statement bag. Philo’s drool-worthy new neon Classic bag won’t be out for a while, but this gem-shaped box clutch from Hervé Léger isn’t a half-bad substitute. And as Tommy Ton’s pics from Milan can attest, tiny clutches are making a big splash this summer. Click the image to shop.

Mane Event

When the weather turns balmy (as it has in New York City today), our long locks turn into a tight topknot. This summer, we’ve taken to accessorizing the look with statement headbands. Think Bonnaroo, not Blair Waldorf. Deepa Gurnani’s colorful number has a vaguely seventies vibe that pairs nicely with the high-waisted shorts featured in our latest In the Mood For feature. Orange Crush

Call us jaded fashion types, but we’ve never been particularly drawn to colorful shoes. Trendy hues just don’t hold the same appeal as a classic pair of black or nude heels we can wear forever—or so we thought. This very strappy and very bright pair of platform sandals from Aperlaï just might force us to change our neutrals-only tune. The much-buzzed-about brand’s sandals come in a wide variety of shades from pink to shiny gold, but it’s the hot tangerine that we love best. We think they’ll work beautifully with all of spring’s whites and khakis. Click the image to shop.
