Hello, Sailor

The Chanel Cruise show has left us in a positively beachy mood despite the dismal Manhattan weather. Since a teeny gingham bikini is pretty much out of the question right now, we’ll be sticking to seaside-worthy marinière stripes. Manoush’s gold-embroidered jacket dresses up the classic Breton shirt and raises it to a tony new level. Next stop, Saint-Tropez—or, at least, a Saint-Tropez state of mind. Click the image to shop.

Back It Up

It may not be vacation season just yet, but it’s never too early to start strategizing. Where to go, what to pack, what to pack it in? Since backpacks have popped up on runways from Alexander Wang to Chanel the last few seasons, we recommend forgoing your typical duffel in favor of a sporty rucksack. This one from Marc by Marc Jacobs has a very now utilitarian feel, not to mention several handy pockets for stowing your TSA-approved necessities. Click the image to shop.

In Full Bloom

Tucking a few wheat fronds in your hair à la Chanel‘s roll-in-the-hay Spring show is one way to greet the new season, but we suggest going with something faux. This colorful raffia headband from Anthropologie evokes a verdant country scene sans any risk of withering or fading. Pair it with a girlish sundress, and you’ll be all set for a lovely spring weekend (clogs optional). Click the image to shop.

All Clogged Up

The question of Spring ’10: to clog or not to clog? The Spring footwear hit is now hitting stores, and even if you’re a little more rock ‘n’ roll than country, you can’t go wrong with this pair from Joie. The thick wooden heel is plenty farm-girl, but the snakeskin-embossed upper is pure big-city babe. Best of all, there’s a heel strap, so you won’t stumble trying to wrangle a taxi. Yee-haw. Gone Country

After several seasons of hard-as-nails urban warriors, Spring‘s sudden shift to rustic, countrified dressing was a welcome sight. Sure, we love our leather body-con minis, but there’s irresistible romance to Christopher Kane‘s picnic-blanket gingham and Chanel‘s haute farmwear. The sheer sleeves and lace details on this peasant top from GEM make it just the thing for a low-key date night. Click the image to shop.
