Shin Young Jang

“My collection is inspired by my personal journey and transformation, moving from South Korea to New York to study at Parsons The New School for Design, feeling very nervous to live abroad and at times alone.”

Shin Young Jang's thesis collection, Maturation, is a series of winter garments designed for a brave modern woman who does not hesitate to express her uniqueness. The collection consists of both conceptual and wearable pieces, balancing accessibility and creativity. The contrasting looks of the collection reflect the maturation process through transitions in fabric and structure, from soft, light, and organic to heavy, hard, and structured.

"My collection is inspired by my personal journey and transformation, moving from South Korea to New York to study at Parsons The New School for Design, feeling very nervous to live abroad and at times alone. Passionate yet young and naive, I endured the challenges of city life, developing strength and identity as a designer. My designer mother influenced my aesthetic and taught me the importance of balancing the conceptual and the practical. Functional material and considered details create clothes for urban transformation and style."
