Mijia Zhang

“In keeping with my belief that design should be playful and inspiring, my collection explores the boxy, geometric shape of machines, and uses mechanical and stiff fabrics to express a robotic yet humorous sense of movement.”

Mijia Zhang was born and raised in Qingdao, China. She has interned at Vogue, Milk Studios, Tabitha Simmons, Calvin Klein Jeans, and Ralph Lauren. Her thesis collection draws on the visual vocabulary of robots and technology, especially as they relate to nanotechnology, biology, and artificial intelligence. In 2013, Zhang won the Saga Furs competition, subsequently attending a fur design training program in Copenhagen, Denmark, and partnering with the Hong Kong Fur Federation for her thesis collection. She received the Meifu Knitwear Sponsorship for her knitwear production, working closely with the manufacturer, and recently won the Vogue Talents competition in Milan. Her winning pieces were featured in both the March and April issues of Vogue Italia.

"In keeping with my belief that design should be playful and inspiring, my collection explores the boxy, geometric shape of machines, and uses mechanical and stiff fabrics to express a robotic yet humorous sense of movement. The collection also references a variety of design styles and textiles, including high-end fabrics, streetwear, fur, and unusual materials seldom used in fashion."
