The Top Parties of 2007

Olivier Theyskens at the Met
Olivier Theyskens started off 2007 with a bang. He'd been snapped up by Nina Ricci after Procter & Gamble had abruptly closed Rochas in '06, and the frippery-loving Belgian designer and his new backers set out to celebrate their coming together in high style. There were fêtes for Theyskens nationwide that year, but none grander than the black-tie ball at the Met designed to reintroduce the designer to his adoring public. Yard upon yard of fabrics flowed, not only on Renée Zellweger's gown but also on the silk jacquard tablecloths, which were an alternate version of the fabric used for Reese Witherspoon's O.T.-designed Golden Globes dress. The honeymoon wasn't to last between Theyskens and the label (he was gone less than two years later), but oh, what a wedding party it was.
