The aughts—can't someone come up with a better name?—were the decade when high fashion went from a semi-private members' club to mainstream entertainment. Final confirmation of that came in 2009, a year that was less about the selling of clothes (that lingering recession) than the spectacle of clothes. With bloggers in the front row, designers starring in their own movies, and pop divas (and first ladies) wearing the most avant-garde looks, there was hardly a dull moment.
