NEW YORK, Monday, February 4, 2008 - Spotted after the Thakoon show: Model Suvi Koponen pushing off on a little silver scooter with what one editor called "Miss Havisham" hair flopping behind her in the wind (for his show of mismatched plaids and ombre woolens (top left), Thakoon had the hair pulled back in big poufs).
Last season, a few of the girls were abstaining from town cars and saving the planet one bicycle at a time (see Agyness Deyn). Now they've added scooters to their efforts.
Actually, it seems that everywhere we turn there's a reminder to be more earth-friendly - even the gift you find on your seat screams out "I Am Not a Plastic Bag!" Bumble and Bumble leaves a cloth goodie bag at every place, and today at Benjamin Cho there were reusable cotton sacks decorated with the same lipstick kiss design (by artist Dan Colen) that bedecked the designers dresses and even the arms of model Patricia Schmid. The vibe at Cho's show was fun and friendly as usual (so many of his pals came that extra room had to be made for them) save for the overzealous (and a tad unfriendly) security at the front door of the Altman Building where it was held.
In addition to Thakoon, another CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist, Doo Ri, showed today (she won the 2006 contest). The woman whose name is synonymous with perfectly draped jersey has branched out into knits, chiffons and organza (on Egle Tvirbutaite, Chanel Iman and Alex Sandor, bottom left).
Fashion Funders always say how close they become with their fellow finalists. And to prove the point, there was Devi Kroell, the accessories designer and 2006 participant, sitting front row.
